Basic, Standard or Premium — based on how much protection you want and your goods' value.

3

Pay Premium

Pay the calculated premium along with your moving invoice. GST applies at 18%.

4

Claim If Needed

If something breaks, file a claim within 7 days with photos, video and original invoices.

Pro Tips

Get the most out of your cover.

Practical advice from thousands of insured moves across India.

Declare the Right Value

Declare the actual replacement cost of your goods — not their purchase price or depreciated value. Under-declaring means you get less in a claim.

Photograph Everything Before Moving

Take photos of each room and valuable item before packing. This documentation is crucial for claims if damage occurs.

Pick Zero-Deductible for High Value

If your goods are worth over ₹10 lakh or include expensive electronics, the extra cost of zero-deductible cover is worth it.

Insure Only What You List

Make sure your inventory list matches what's actually being moved. Items not on the list are usually excluded from the claim.

File Claims Fast

Report damage within 7 days of delivery. Late claims are often rejected. Keep the original packing slips and invoices ready.

Insurance Is 1-3% of Value

For a ₹5 lakh move, insurance costs ₹5,000-14,000. A single damaged TV can cost more than the premium you'd pay.

FAQ

Common questions, clearly answered.

How is the transit insurance premium calculated?
Transit insurance premium is calculated as a percentage of the declared value of your goods. Basic coverage is about 1-1.5%, standard comprehensive is 1.5-2%, and premium zero-deductible coverage is 2.5-3% of declared value. Longer distances may add a small loading.
What is the declared value of goods?
Declared value is the total replacement cost of all items you are moving. It includes furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes and personal belongings. This is the maximum amount the insurer will pay if the goods are damaged, lost or stolen in transit.
Is there a minimum premium for transit insurance?
Yes. Most insurers apply a minimum premium of ₹500 to ₹1,000 per policy regardless of the declared value. This covers administrative and documentation costs.
What is a deductible in transit insurance?
A deductible is the amount you must pay out of pocket before the insurer pays a claim. Standard policies often have a ₹1,000-2,500 deductible. Zero-deductible plans waive this, so the insurer covers the full claim amount.
Does distance affect my insurance premium?
Yes, but only slightly. Longer distances mean more handling and higher risk, so premiums may go up by 10-25% for moves over 1,500 km. Local moves usually attract the base rate.
Is transit insurance mandatory for shifting?
No. Transit insurance is optional in India. However, it is strongly recommended for any move with high-value electronics, furniture or fragile items, especially for intercity moves.
What does transit insurance cover?
Comprehensive transit insurance covers accidental damage during loading, transit and unloading, fire, theft, natural calamities and vehicle accidents. It usually does not cover damage from poor packing, pre-existing damage or items not listed in the inventory.
How do I file a claim if my goods are damaged?
File a claim within 7 days of delivery with photos, video evidence and original packing slips. Notify the vendor in writing and submit the claim per their process. Keep original invoices of damaged items to support your claim.
